Presenters and Member Input

In order to make the meeting as efficient as possible, part of the session will be information provided to members by Jenn Gardner (President) and Lyle Kenny (Project Lead). The other part of the session will be seeking feedback and suggestions from members.

Fund Raising Strategy

There has been a draft Fund Raising Strategy document prepared. A Fund Raising Working Group will be needed going forward and it is envisaged that the draft document will be reviewed and finalised by that Group once its members are in place. It is important to show that many avenues of fund raising have already been considered and whilst we want suggestions and feedback from members at the meeting we do not wish to re-invent the wheel as to what has already been considered.

Below is an outline of the fund raising sources that have been documented:

i) Meet with other clubs who have undertaken fund raising activities for similar projects to understand lessons learnt (ie Fremantle/Whitfords/Melville for example).

ii) Consider if a paid fund raising person should be retained, which could be at a strategic level to offer advice or a person or people who get paid on what funds they raise.

iii) Tax deductible donations to be made by individuals or companies via the Australian Sports Foundation.

iv) Possible avenues to raise funds from within the Club:

  • Various fund raising events, auctions, memorabilia, raffles, sell a brick or m2 of turf etc.
  • Associated with the clubhouse/turf such as naming rights/signage on the whole facility/lights/goals/bar/changerooms/seats etc.
  • Package benefits for donation levels such as platinum/gold/silver etc.
  • Time capsule of specific donors to be revealed at a point in the future ie 21 yr anniversary.
  • Secure several large donors up front and seek wider club donations to be matched $ for $ by that small group of larger donors.
  • Ensure key members of the Fund Raising Working Group be connected into various sub groups within the Club such as the veterans and recent past veterans/seniors/junior parents/life members.
  • Extended fund raising opportunities via bequests that could be received over the future years to repay a residual loan.

v) Avenues to be explored external to the Club for fund raising;

  • City, Federal and State Government sources. Given the $130m being spend by the State Government at PHS, any State funds would be highly unlikely.
  • Explore other external sources such as Lotterywest or other avenues. Research that space.
  • Corporate employers of Club employees who will match employee donations to such projects.
  • Crowd funding.
  • External user/s for the clubhouse and /or facility need to be secured and those users could bring capital sums in order to gain long term access to the facility. In turn their needs may require modification to the facility design. Prepayment of their sub rental could assist to offset the upfront capital costs.

To fund raise our contribution will take an enormous effort that may well be beyond us. It is highly unlikely that we can do so solely from our own internal resources and indeed we will need some of our more financial members and supporters to make significant donations. Whilst it is critical and essential that we have a wide ranging fund raising effort and we get a buy in across our full membership, we will not be successful solely on the back of small dollar fund raising.

‘One club, one home’

This undertaking at Collier Reserve is a Club defining moment in our long history and will need the whole club to commit. It will not happen unless we can come together as never before. We have been at Richardson Park for some 60 years. This is our next 60 year opportunity.

One club, one home.

Look forward to seeing you all there on Sunday 26 May 2024 4pm - 6pm at Richardson Park.
