Kimmy Hoshi, a member of the Japanese side, recently joined our women's Premier 1's side.
Following the side's match against Hale on Sunday, which was attended by Consul-General Naito, the Consulate recently shared the below kind words and background on Facebook...
[Welcoming Kimika Hoshi to WA]
Today, we met with Kimika Hoshi (星 希巳加) who recently joined Wesley South Perth Hockey Club (WASP HC), Perth’s premier field hockey club. Kimmy is currently a player for ‘Sakura Japan’, the Japan women's national field hockey team, and participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The Australia women’s national field hockey team currently ranks number three in the world, and three weeks ago Kimmy came to WA, a hockey powerhouse, to join WASP HC in order to further improve her hockey skills ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On Sunday May 14, Consul-General Naito watched WASP go against one of the league’s top teams, Hale, and it was a close game with Kimmy making a stunning penalty shot to end the match 1-2. It has been encouraging to learn Rina Endo Hughes and two other Japanese players are also currently in the hockey league.
We are delighted to learn of the high quality of training in WA as well as the international exchange between top players and coaches, which Kimmy believes has already made a huge difference. Thank you Kimmy for visiting the Consulate and for sharing your story with us.
